Residents Group

September update

Hello there,

Again, there’s quite a lot of information to pass on and some responses to give, so I’m putting it all onto one page.

1. Themes

Thanks for indicating which themes you would like to work on. We have tried to give most people their first choice. You should have received an email letting you know which theme you’ll be working in and here are the groups:

2. Different roles

There’s a lot to do and we can’t ask everyone to to everything! So, we’re asking everyone to take on some different roles - from speaking with people who are interested in our work to testing out the application processes to helping us to bring new people on board.

3. Funding themes

If you were at the meeting on 15th August, you’ll know that we are proposing to work as smaller groups as we move towards the more focussed funding decisions at the end of the year. Each of these themes will contain roughly one third of the 34 proposals that are relevant to the theme. This will mean that:

  • you will develop skills, knowledge and expertise in a particular area

  • you will have fewer project proposals to assess at the end

  • each of the projects you assess will be related to the theme that you have worked in

We will still come together as a larger group occasionally.

At the moment we have 3 draft themes - Just Futures, Community Voice and Environment.

We are yet to assign the projects to the themes but the categories we have used recently are linked to the them as follows:

This is all still to be agreed with the organisations involved. However, it would be helpful to know at this stage

  1. if you agree with this initial grouping

  2. which theme you would like to focus your work on

Please use the form below to let us know your thoughts about this model and your first and second choices for which theme you would like to focus on.

4. Expert sessions

Now that you have chosen your preferred themes, what would you like to learn more about and who from? At the moment we are planning the following sessions:

    • Ableism - the need for disability justice to be part of climate action

    • Poverty and housing - the factors that can lead to homelessness

    • Community Wealth Building - this is an approach to economic activity that prioritises wellbeing, putting people and planet over profit

    • Employment and poverty

    • The Education system and how it needs to work better for some children

    • The prison system and how families are affected by imprisonment

    • Refugee/Asylum experiences

    • Legal aspects of social justice

If you can think of any other areas you would like to learn about to help you in your theme, please let us know using the form below. Of course, you may not know this right now and you can tell us later.
